Master of Arts, Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Visharad in Hindi

Did her post-graduation at the age of 60 and got her doctorate when she was 80. Joined the Women's Indian Association (WIA) when she was 20. Put in tremendous efforts through Women's Indian Association (WIA) and made significant contribution to women and child welfare: the "Even Tide Home" for senior citizens, a large Smokeless Chulah Project, an Indian Population Project, training in tailoring to poor girls, a computer training centre, rehabilitation of leprosy-cured patients, Cancer Institute at Adayar. The list is endless.

Evinces keen interest in the eradication of illiteracy among women. The WIA runs a number of Jana Shikshan Nilayam as continuing education centres.

Responded promptly and with empathy to natural calamities whether cyclones in Tamil Nadu and Orissa or earthquake in Rajkot and Ahmedabad.

Received. Padma Shri in 1973. Was conferred the Stree Shakti Puraskar Award on International Women's Day.
