P. M. Murugesan is an Indian farmer, a passionate innovator and entrepreneur known for successfully developing and patenting machines that convert banana plantation fibre waste into commercially valuable products. The various machines such as the Fiber Separator, Rope Making Wheel & Machine, amongst many others designed by him has increased the productivity and reduced the drudgery of the village women employed in his units.
The eco-friendly craft products produced out of waste material have generated good demand in domestic and international markets. The work is an ideal combination of creativity & grassroots technology which has been replicated in the states of Bihar, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Pondicherry, Karnataka and Odisha, which provides skill training and employment to over 3500 rural women.
P. M. Murugesan has shown remarkable insight into adapting simple appropriate technology for Gramodyog to help the rural community earn, expand banana fiber production and transfer technology to other banana plantation areas. He has been a role model for aspiring local, rural youth to follow the path of entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
