Born in Calcutta. Resigned her membership of the Constituent Assembly and went to a distant corner of Orissa to work for the uplift and welfare of women and children. Similarly, instead of joining a college, she opted for higher education in Shantiniketan under the guidance of Rabindranath Tagore. Has been applying the Gandhian ideas of Basic Education. Has built necessary infrastructure – a Primary School, a post- basic school with advanced craft training centre, a vocational training centre. Established Utakal Navjeevan Mandal to set up sovial service centers in the State.
